our story
At Gosling's, we are proud to represent over two centuries of history, heritage and craftmanship rooted in the heart of Bermuda. In 1806, James Gosling set out from England on the ship Mercury, with £10,000 sterling worth of wines and spirits merchandise. Since landing in St. Georges, our family-owned business has grown to become a cornerstone of Bermudian culture.
In 1850 the first oak barrels of rum distillate arrived in Bermuda. After much experimentation in the blending process, the distinctive black rum, then known as "Old Rum", was first offered for sale out of the barrel. In 1914 the rum was sold in champagne bottles reclaimed from the British Officer’s Mess, and the corks sealed with black sealing wax. Soon, people began to ask for the “Black Seal”. Many years later a play on words and images gave birth to the barrel juggling “Black Seal”. Today, the Gosling's portfolio boasts a broad range of rums, ginger beers, tonics, liquors, ready-to-drink cocktails, mixers, and other spirits.
In addition to crafting world-class beverages, Gosling's Group of Companies is Bermuda's leading importer and distributor of premium wines, spirits, beers and non-alcoholic beverages. We take pride in offering our customers an extensive portfolio of high-quality products that meet a variety of tastes and occasions.
Today, the eighth generation of the Gosling family remains deeply committed to upholding the traditions that have defined us while embracing new opportunities to grow. As a member of the Gosling's team, you are an essential part of this ongoing legacy. Together, we will continue to share the spirit of Bermuda and deliver exceptional products to our customers.
