The Staglin Family donates 100% of the proceeds from Salus Wines to their non-profit organization, ONE MIND. This organization has been a beacon of hope, raising over $585 million since its inception in 1990 to support a variety of brain health initiatives.
Salus, named after the Roman goddess of health and well-being, truly embodies its namesake. The family’s dedication stems from a personal place: Shari and Garen Staglin’s son, Brandon, was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1989. In response, they founded ONE MIND to drive forward brain science with a focus on conditions like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, Alzheimer’s, PTSD, traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), and autism.

A portrait of dynamic balance and tension, the powerful, polished and precise 2021 Staglin Chardonnay is at once both concentrated and lithe. The gorgeous flaxen hue hints at the yellow citrus and pome fruits to come. At first flinty then floral, the opening notes of struck rock give way to delicate spring flowers and fragrant blossoming citrus furthered by fresh honeycomb spiced with nutmeg. A palate of lemon chiffon and Jonagoldapple granita float over a rollick of liquified minerals and crystalline acid framed by an echo of oak. While nearly breathtaking now, this wine seems to whisper it is merely a hint of whatís to come given some time in the bottle.

The poised 2018 Salus Cabernet Sauvignon feels like a modern portrait of yesteryear’s traditions. Well composed flavors of cassis and boysenberry redolent with raspberry liqueur, milled spices and subtle earth flow seamlessly into a balanced midpalate full of finely crafted detail. Filigreed tannins produce a delightfully delicate and textured wine with a finessed and silky structure that is drinking well right out of the gate yet hints at layers yet to be fully revealed.

The silky and detailed 2018 Staglin Cabernet is a poised and elegant classic that impresses with its old-world charms and modern-day precision. Initial notes of herb laden cassis and cedary plums evolve into layers of lavender infused raspberry liqueur and menthol lifted cherry compote spiced by green peppercorns, ground coffee and a dusting Piment d'Espelette. The beautiful weight, delicate concentration and powder fine-grained structure delivers a wonderfully graceful and balanced palate experience that is a sheer classy delight.
